Stay Together Care Program
The Stay Together Care Program helps cats remain safely with the people who love them by providing structured rescue-administered support for care that might otherwise be delayed, declined, or become a surrender trigger.
When care becomes a breaking point, this program creates another option
Sometimes a cat needs grooming, boarding support, transitional care, or another stabilizing service at exactly the moment a household is under pressure. The Stay Together Care Program exists to reduce that pressure and help preserve placement whenever appropriate.
This program is administered through Cats in the City Rescue and is intended for situations where timely support may help a cat remain in the home rather than move closer to relinquishment, instability, or avoidable disruption.
What the program is
The Stay Together Care Program is a rescue-administered support pathway designed to help address care barriers that may put the cat-human relationship at risk.
- Structured around preserving placement when possible
- Focused on practical, stabilizing care support
- Built for real-world situations where timing matters
What it may support
- Higher-need grooming or coat recovery care
- Transitional support during household instability
- Boarding-related stabilization when clinically or behaviorally appropriate
- Other care needs reviewed through the rescue on a case-by-case basis
What it is not
- Not a public discount program for routine convenience
- Not guaranteed funding for every request
- Not a replacement for standard booking when standard payment is feasible
- Not automatic intake into rescue
How the Stay Together Care Program works
Submit a request
Reach out with a clear description of the cat’s situation, the care barrier, and why support may help preserve the placement.
Rescue review
Cats in the City Rescue reviews requests for fit, urgency, and whether the program is likely to meaningfully support keeping the cat in the home.
Care planning
If approved, the team identifies the most appropriate care path and next steps based on the cat’s needs and the household situation.
Stabilize and reassess
Support is used to reduce immediate pressure, improve the cat’s condition, and help the family move toward a more stable plan.
Good fit for this program
- Care needs are becoming a real surrender trigger
- The household wants to keep the cat if support is possible
- There is a clear barrier, but also a realistic path to stability
- Timely intervention could meaningfully change the outcome
Before you apply
- Be as specific as possible about the current problem
- Include what kind of support would help
- Share any timing concerns or upcoming deadlines
- Let us know whether the cat is still safely housed now
Important note
The goal of this program is to support staying together when that outcome is safe, realistic, and in the cat’s best interest. Rescue review is required for all requests.
