Yes, we care for cats living with conditions such as diabetes, hyperthyroidism, mobility issues, asthma and other medical needs. Our team is trained to provide routine care, administer medications, and monitor your cat’s health based on their specific needs. However, we cannot accept cats with contagious illnesses, such as ringworm or upper respiratory infections, to ensure the safety and well-being of all our feline guests. Please reach out to discuss the best Care Plan for your cat’s comfort and health during their stay.

To qualify for the monthly boarding discount, monthly boarding fees must be paid in advance on the following schedule: Payment for the first month is made at the time the reservation is made and all payments are non-refundable. Payment for the second month is due at check-in, and then invoices are due on a monthly bases until checkout. Invoices paid after service is complete do not qualify for the monthly boarding discount.

Yes, our facilities feature spacious, secure outdoor catios where your cat can enjoy fresh air and explore safely. Each catio is raised off the ground and roofed, allowing cats to experience the outdoors even on rainy days. We do not mix cats from different households, ensuring a private and comfortable experience for your cat. Additionally, we offer a Special Boarding room that includes exclusive access to a large, private catio just for your cat’s enjoyment.

After years of caring for cats, we have observed behavioral patterns, and have concluded that visits generally benefit the human and can be consequential to the kitty. Visits interrupt a kitty’s adjustment to their new environment, forcing some cats into a yo-yo effect. After visiting with their humans, some kitties skip meals and show other signs of stress because their human left again. Like a child at daycare, when they see their parents, they want them to stay or they want to go home with them. So we discourage visits. This way, when your kitty sees you again, they are rewarded with going home. We love happy reunions!

We don’t offer conventional day care for cats because we have a 3-day minimum fee for boarding. We do welcome grooming guests to stay until the end of the day, when their human companions can pick them up.

No, we do not require trimmed nails for boarding. However, by boarding with us, you consent to us trimming your cat’s nails at your expense if needed. We may elect to trim your cat’s nails for reasons such as safety, comfort, or their overall well-being. Many cats benefit from having their nails trimmed every 8 to 12 weeks.

There are no refunds or credits for unused days of a reservation for coming home early.

We are vigilant about protecting our cats from fleas. Every cat must be on a flea treatment protocol (such as Advantage, Activyl, Frontline, Revolution, Comfortis) during their stay. If your cat is not on a flea treatment protocol, we will apply Advantage or Activyl at check-in. We inspect all cats for parasites upon arrival. If a cat arrives with live fleas, we will flea dip your cat immediately in addition to applying a flea preventative at your expense. When it comes to flea problems, our policy is, “Not on our watch!”

The toy chest at Cats in the City has plenty of ways to occupy and entertain your curious, furry friend. We use laser pointers, string, balls, feathers, springy toys, catnip toys, and toys that can be loaded with treats. We explore your cat’s appetite for play, and choose the toys that are most fun for him/her!

Never a Love-Starved Cat!

At Cats in the City, every cat is showered with affection and attention throughout the day. We frequently visit our “guest rooms” to refresh water and food, administer medications (if needed), clean litter boxes, and provide plenty of petting and companionship. With our personalized Care Plans, we go beyond standard care to ensure every cat’s needs are met with the utmost attention and love.

Our Care Plans allow us to tailor your cat’s experience based on their health, personality, and preferences. Whether it’s providing extra playtime, managing special dietary requirements, or accommodating health needs, our Care Plans offer a structured approach to feline well-being. Want more dedicated time for your kitty? Select the Close Contact Care Plan or the Keys to the City Care.

If you have any questions or need help choosing the right Care Plan for your cat, our knowledgeable team is always available to provide support and guidance, ensuring your cat’s stay is nothing short of exceptional! ❤️

For the comfort and safety of our cat guests, we only co-mingle cats from separate households with prior permission. You can authorize cat socialization and co-mingling on your boarding check in form.

Your cat’s appetite and digestive system are accustomed to a specific diet, so we kindly ask that you bring your cat’s usual food and treats. We follow the feeding schedule and routine you’ve established to maintain consistency and comfort. However, we do have a variety of kibbles and wet food available, including Wellness, Orijen, Science Diet, Newman’s Own, Friskies, and 9Lives, if needed.

Accidents do happen, but we’ve found that in our comfortable and secure environment, cats tend to settle in quickly and rarely have “issues.” It’s almost like how kids behave better at someone else’s house! With nearly a decade of experience in cat care, litter box problems are generally a “non-issue” here.

To ensure cleanliness, our mattresses are covered in factory-sealed plastic, so if a cat does have an accident, we simply wash the bedding and sanitize the mattress cover.

However, it’s very important to let us know if your cat is incontinent or not litter trained so we can provide the appropriate accommodations. If your cat arrives and is unable to use the litter box, we may need to adjust their boarding arrangements for their comfort and well-being.

Yes, we require all cats twelve years old or younger (excluding kittens) to be up-to-date on their vaccinations for the safety of all our guests, both feline and human. We follow your cat’s attending veterinarian’s guidelines, so please bring the most recent vet visit receipt showing the dates of their vaccinations.

While a cat is boarding, they are often more alert and active which puts more energy demands on the body, and causes movement in blood glucose levels. A cat might experience a change in appetite too while boarding, which will also cause movement in blood glucose levels. This variability means it is dangerous to inject a diabetic cat with insulin without the data provided by the blood glucose reading.

It is our firm policy NOT to inject a cat with insulin when their blood glucose levels are lower than 250 mg/dl. If a cat injected with insulin uses more calories overnight than they usually do or a cat does not eat as much as they usually do, then dangerous health consequences could result.

We will record all blood glucose readings and provide them to our client so you can review the data together during your next veterinary exam.

Frequently Asked Questions - Grooming

No, we don’t believe in administering unnecessary medication (or incurring extra costs!). Cats have an instinctual desire to be clean and groomed. With our deep understanding of cat behavior and expert handling skills, we can typically provide a stress-free grooming experience without the need for medication.

That being said, there are some rare situations where a cat’s “fight or flight” response is so strong that they may harm themselves or us during grooming. In such cases, we will pause the session and contact you to discuss the best options for your cat’s safety and well-being. For particularly aggressive cats, some clients opt for a vet-prescribed sedative, like gabapentin, which can be given 2 hours before the grooming session to ensure the experience is as calm and safe as possible.

Our priority is always to restore your cat’s natural beauty in a way that is gentle and enjoyable for them.

Fleas are invasive and can cause serious health issues.

Lion Cut
The Lion Cut gives your cat a close trim all over, similar to a buzz cut. You can choose a natural or tapered mane, along with booties and a pom-pom at the end of the tail—resembling the iconic look of a lion.

Teddy Bear Cut
The Teddy Bear Cut is similar to the Lion Cut but leaves a slightly thicker layer of fur, giving a soft, plush appearance, like lamb’s wool. We taper the fur around the face to create the rounded look of a bear cub—no mane needed.

Squirrel Cut
The Squirrel Cut maintains a slightly fuller body while keeping the legs and face neatly trimmed. It’s similar to the Teddy Bear Cut but features a fluffy, bushy tail left untouched—just like a squirrel!

Velvet Cut
The Velvet Cut offers the smoothest and shortest trim possible, keeping the fur evenly clipped close to the skin. It’s perfect for a sleek, minimalistic look while providing a soft, velvety texture.

Dino Cut
The Dino Cut is a playful and unique style where the fur along the spine is sculpted into a series of points or ridges, resembling the back of a dinosaur. It’s a fun way to give your cat a little extra character and flair!

With our specialized grooming techniques, you don’t have to worry about your cat’s fur growing back abnormally. Each cut is designed to allow your cat’s coat to grow in naturally, looking healthy and beautiful every time.

We understand how uncomfortable matted fur can be for your cat, and we’re here to help! When a cat’s fur is dreadlocked or severely matted, our grooming specialists will gently assess the condition of the fur and skin. Depending on the severity, we may need to carefully trim or shave the matted areas to relieve your cat from any discomfort.

Our priority is always your cat’s safety and well-being, so we’ll handle the process with the utmost care, using techniques to minimize stress. After the mats are removed, we can also recommend a grooming routine to prevent future matting, such as regular brushing or scheduling maintenance grooming appointments.

With the right care, your cat’s coat can return to being healthy, soft, and mat-free!

The ideal time between grooming sessions varies based on your cat’s breed and fur type. While some cats do well with just one salon visit per year, others benefit from a quarterly grooming routine. Shedding tends to increase during the spring and fall, as your cat’s coat adjusts to the changing seasons. These transitional periods are the perfect opportunity to schedule a seasonal grooming session to help your cat look and feel their best.

We use customized de-shedding and de-matting tools from a brilliant company that, like us, understands that shaving a cat isn’t the only solution to cat fur management.

You may reschedule or cancel your appointment at anytime. We do ask for 24-hours notice, but understand when same-day cancellations happen. Call on us to reschedule. We’re here to help.

Soft Claws are tiny, plastic caps that fit over your cat’s claws, similar to press-on nails for humans. They’re designed to prevent cats from scratching people, furniture, doors, or other surfaces you’d like to keep claw-free. The caps are secured with a small amount of safe adhesive, keeping them in place for 4-8 weeks. Both the caps and the glue are non-toxic and harmless to your cat, and most felines quickly adapt to wearing them. While your cat continues to groom and stretch as usual, you’ll enjoy the added benefit of less damage to your home!
