A long relationship with Cats in the City
Cats in the City first met Lavaman in 2017, when the large, fluffy orange Maine Coon began staying with the team while his person traveled for work. Over repeated visits, he became known for his purrs, lap time, relaxed belly-up stretches, and affectionate happy drool.
Support through a major life change
In 2020, a relocation and severe family allergies changed Lavaman’s circumstances. He returned to Cats in the City as his primary home, where he received companionship and enjoyed time around kittens. After a 16-month transition, the team matched him with a familiar family ready to give him a permanent home.
Lavaman the adventure cat
Lavaman was adopted at 10 years and 6 months. In his new home he became an adventure cat, walking on a leash, hiking in the woods, and meeting neighbors. His story shows how an extended transition and a carefully selected match can open a new chapter for a senior cat.
