Cats in the City • TANDEM Cat® Clinical Grooming

Cat Grooming Services

This is the hub for our grooming services—organized by what cats actually need: coat burden relief, comfort-forward coat resets, hygiene support, senior care, and maintenance services. If you’re not sure what to book, choose the closest match and describe coat + behavior notes during intake.

Our work is structured and behavior-first. We use the TANDEM Cat® method—paced to the nervous system, built around natural body positioning, and focused on comfort and skin safety over cosmetic perfection.

  • Feline-only clinic
  • Behavior-first pacing
  • Matting + coat resets
  • Deshedding + compaction relief
  • Senior + medical cats welcome

How to Use This Service Hub

Grooming isn’t one thing. Cats come in with different coat mechanics, different skin status, and different tolerance windows. Use the sections below to find the page that matches your cat’s need—then book and describe what you’re seeing.

Coat Resets (Cuts)

Lion cut, teddy bear cut, and uniform trims chosen for comfort and coat stability.

Coat Burden Relief

Many cats look “fine” while the undercoat compacts into a dense layer against the skin—or while small mats tighten slowly over months. Coat burden relief is about function: mobility, skin access, and comfort.

Undercoat Compaction

“Shedding” is often trapped shedding. When loose hair can’t release, it becomes friction tangles, hairballs, heat retention, and the base layer for matting. Therapeutic deshedding stabilizes the coat before it collapses.

Hair thinning and skin irritation revealed under tight matting after release

Matting Hides Skin Problems

Tight mats can conceal irritation, moisture dermatitis, pressure points, or friction injuries. Releasing mats is not cosmetic— it’s access to the skin and relief from constant pull.

Cat Dematting

Corrective removal for formed mats tight against the skin. Skin safety and pacing come first.

Cat Deshedding

Therapeutic undercoat release to reduce shedding, friction tangles, and hairball load.

Coat Resets and Cuts

A “cut” is sometimes the least invasive plan. When coat burden is already compromising hygiene, skin health, or tolerance, a reset can restore comfort quickly and make future maintenance possible.

Lion cut performed for comfort-forward coat reset

Lion Cut

A comfort-forward reset used when matting, hygiene breakdown, or coat compaction makes a full coat unsafe to maintain. We choose patterns that support comfort and skin safety—not just appearance.

Teddy bear cut style uniform trim for coat stability

Teddy Bear / Uniform Cut

A uniform trim that reduces bulk and mat risk while maintaining coverage. Often used as a stabilization plan for chronic matting or chronic compaction.

Bison cut style coat reset for functional comfort

Bison Cut

A structured functional reset that preserves strategic coverage while reducing coat burden. When a full coat is failing, patterns like this can restore mobility and make the coat manageable again.

Senior and Medical Support

Many senior cats still want to be clean—they just can’t keep up. We adjust positioning, pacing, and session structure to support aging joints, guarded bodies, and medical complexity.

Senior Cat Grooming

Joint-protective handling, comfort pacing, hygiene support, and coat stability for aging cats.

Maintenance Services

Maintenance care prevents escalation. Nail trims reduce snag injuries and overgrowth. Hygiene support prevents recurring skin stress. These appointments are short, focused, and still behavior-first.

Ingrown Claws Start as Routine Overgrowth

Dewclaws and fast-growing nails can curve toward the paw pad long before guardians notice. Routine trims are the prevention plan. If you see limping, swelling, bleeding, or pad penetration, contact your veterinarian.
