Chowder

The cat beyond the checklist

Meet Chowder as the care team does

Meet Chowder

Chowder is a handsome 2½-year-old cream tabby who is ready to find his forever home—and his new favorite person. He has a silly, playful personality, great big eyes, and an adorably round head that make him especially easy to love. He is just as content relaxing like a couch potato as he is enjoying playtime or being the center of attention. He does not require or want constant attention, but he thrives on engagement, a predictable routine, playtime, and cuddles on his terms. Chowder is deeply emotional and, once he feels safe, will form a strong bond with his person.

His digestive health journey

Chowder has a history of pica and has eaten non-food materials in the past, including items such as string, plastic, and paper. This caused significant digestive upset and required veterinary treatment to clear blockages. This history is the reason Chowder came to Cats in the City Rescue.

While Chowder has been with us, we have gradually expanded his freedom and liberties as he has demonstrated stability. We have not observed pica-related behaviors while he has been in our care. He displays normal play, normal eating habits, and normal digestive health, and he is thriving on a stable, regular nonprescription diet. His history remains important, so his future family should continue sensible precautions by keeping tempting non-food materials safely out of reach.

Chowder is neutered and current on vaccines. He takes fluoxetine regularly to support his emotional health and help him continue thriving.

The home that will help him flourish

Chowder is looking for a cat-savvy family where he can be the one-and-only pet, with no other cats or dogs and no children under eight. He will likely benefit from a slow introduction to his new home. He should begin in a thoughtfully prepared space, such as a bedroom, and receive gradually greater freedom as he acclimates, feels secure, and shows that he is ready to explore more of the home.

With thoughtful cat-proofing, a steady routine, play, affection, and room to settle in at his own pace, Chowder is ready to make himself comfortable and become a wonderful best friend.

Ready for Adoption

Could your life be the life that fits Chowder?

The goal is not simply to place Chowder. The goal is a durable relationship in which the care structure and the cat’s specialness can both be fully seen.
